JavaKomp – Java in the accessibility perspective ->Läs sidorna på svenska
a practial study of accessibility issues in the Java environment

2000-05-30 (updated 2006-11-19)

Performed by DART with funding support from KFB - "IT for the disabled and elderly"

The aim of the project has been to perform a concentrated investigation of the preconditions for ensuring that users with impairments have acceptable access to the Java environment. It has also been to contribute to the development of better Swedish competence in exploiting the potential of Java in this area.
Two main aspects have been focussed:
      1. Basic and general accessibility based on Java Accessibility - standardised functions and guidelines developed by Sun, IBM, a.o. - NOTE !! - pages in Swedish!

      2. Special needs' assistive solutions based on ComLink - an open and modular development environment for alternative communication and accessibility - developed in the European Comspec project

The project has also provided some input to the preparations for the proposal for the European IST project WWAAC - World Wide Alternative and Augmentative Communication – 2001 - 2004.
The WWAAC-project has been followed up by the Nordic SYMBERED project 2005-2006.
